MATHCOUNTS
PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Can you solve this MATHCOUNTS
problem? The answer will appear in the next edition of the Friday Update!
Multimedia Math
Cheri has a new iPod® with enough
storage capacity to hold up to 32G (which is 32 gigabytes) of her multimedia
content. Cheri adds 10G of music and uses 1G of the space for some of her
photos. What percent of the total storage capacity remains free for Cheri to add
additional content? Express your answer as a decimal to the nearest tenth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The only additional content Cheri
adds to her iPod are some videos. After adding her videos, the ratio of unused
storage space to the space used for the videos is 1:2. How many gigabytes of
video content did Cheri add to her iPod?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheri’s younger brother, Will,
also has a new iPod. Will’s iPod will only accommodate 16G of his multimedia
content. Will adds music to his iPod that uses the same fraction of space on his
iPod as Cheri’s music used on her iPod. What is the total storage space on
Will’s iPod that contains music, in gigabytes?
