Idaho Society of Professional Engineers Update – September, 2016 FROM THE PRESIDENT:As summer comes to an
end, the ISPE fun begins! Your local chapters are gearing up and newly instated
Executive Committees are planning upcoming meetings and events. Be sure to reach
out to your chapter presidents if you have questions about upcoming PDH
opportunities, local or State licensure topics, or want to contribute to their
efforts. Each has volunteered their time to lead their respective chapters and
would value and appreciate your input and assistance: RECENT CHAPTER EVENTS:· Magic Valley Chapter had a tour of the demolition/reconstruction of the Rogerson Building and the Banner Building on August 2, 2016. (Photos)
· Northern Chapter Executive Committee kick-off meeting on September 13, 2016 at Caddyshack in Coeur d’Alene. Join us!
· Southwest Chapter will be holding a tour of the Boise River Diversion Dam on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Their Golf Tournament fundraiser for MATHCOUNTS and Future City Competition is set for September 16, 2016.

3D Modeling and Automated Machine Grading Workshop September 13 and 14, 2016 Shilo Inn Idaho Falls, Idaho
The ITD is hosting a training workshop on 3D Modeling and Automated Machine Grading (AMG). The workshop will highlight the technologies used in developing the grade separated Thornton Interchange. The Thornton Interchange is currently under construction and the workshop participants will be given an on the job experience in addition to classroom style presentations.
The workshop is primarily funded by a grant received from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Public agency employees’ participation (travel, accommodations, per diem) will be covered with the grant money. Private attendees (e.g., contractors, consultants) will have to provide their own accommodations, travel arrangements, and pay a small registration fee (to be determined) to cover expenses for breaks and lunches.

ASCE is offering an “Ethics Short Course” at its ASCE 2016 Convention in Portland Oregon. ETHICS SHORT COURSE PRACTICAL ETHICAL CHALLENGES FOR ENGINEERS IN TODAY'S WORLD (4.0 PDHS) WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 2016 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. This short course will identify and discuss recent and real ethical challenges faced by engineers. Ethical challenges will be presented and actively discussed among participants. The course will consist of three modules: 1. Applications of ASCE's “Code of Ethics” 2. "Ethicana” training 3. Practical ethical case studies Upon completion of the course, participants will have the knowledge and skills to face ethical challenges with confidence, learn how recent ethical challenges were resolved, and learn techniques to apply in their daily work. The focus will be on interactive discussion and practical solutions. All participants will be encouraged to discuss their own challenges and develop potential solutions. The course instructors are all experts in ethical compliance.
