Purpose
The Idaho Society of Professional Engineers’ (ISPE) strategic planning process
has been developed with the belief that strategic planning is essential in order
to successfully meet the Society’s vision, mission, values and goals. It will be
through the parameters of this plan that elected officers and ISPE members will
be able to gauge their progress and achievements.
ISPE is moving forward during a time of rapid, fundamental change in engineering
as the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) seeks a more
influential role in the engineering society. Through the planning process, ISPE
will seek ways to promote engineering through professionalism, ethical conduct
and competency, while remaining focused on leveraging our funding to meet the
goals of the NSPE.
Future changes within ISPE are likely to result in a taking the necessary steps
to ensure that, as we grow, we also become more flexible, more responsive to our
members needs and more service oriented.
Vision
The vision statement is probably the most important statement that can be made
for an organization. This is because the vision statement gives its officers and
members a sense of direction and growth potential. The vision for ISPE has been
identified as:
“The Idaho Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE) will be the selected
engineering society of the Idaho engineering professionals for promoting
engineering and public awareness and providing advocacy and networking.”
Mission
As the Society seeks ways to promote the engineering field, enhance our image,
encourage new member growth and retention of current members, it faces many
challenges. The strategic plan identifies priority goals and direction for
operational improvements, which are reflected in the mission statement:
“The Idaho Society of Professional Engineers is the Idaho State society for
engineering professionals from all disciplines that promote the ethical and
competent practice of engineering, advocate licensure, and enhance the image
and well being of its members.”
Goals
ISPE has assessed its strengths and weaknesses by looking inside and outside of
the organization for opportunities and potential challenges or threats to
success. Working through several meetings and a facilitated workshop, we
formulated strategic goals focusing on current and future members, protection to
the public, licensure, ethical conduct, professionalism and competency. From
these many discussions, we have established five goals. They are:
Goal #1 To promote the competent, ethical, and professional practice of
engineering.
Goal #2 To enhance the image and stature of engineering professionals.
Goal #3 To provide education, career development, networking opportunities, and
other benefits to engineering professionals and students.
Goal #4 To maintain an effective government relations program to protect the
public and advocate the interests of engineering professionals.

optimize support and resources for all programs.
