2008 Pending Rule Documents

The Board has held one hearing on the Proposed Rules regarding the Rules of Procedure, Professional Responsibility, Corner Perpetuation and Filing and Continuing Professional Development and has submitted the following Pending Rules for review by the State Legislature. These Rules here are in the markup format so you can see the changes from the various stages of development. The RED markup is the change from Proposed to Pending that was submitted on 11/24/08 to the Administrative Rules Office. IDAHO FUTURE CITY COMPETITION – JUDGES NEEDED!!
Idaho’s Future City Competition is in the full swing of things and they are happy to say that they had 26 schools sign up to participate. The students are working hard on their projects and their submittal deadlines are getting nearer. They are looking for model and presentation judges to help score these portions on the day of the competition, January 10, 2009 (approx. 8-noon).

Click here for a description of what you can expect to do as a model or presentation judge. Please contact Erika Stoddard, 334-8552, if you can help. If you’d like more information on the competition in general you can find it at www.idahofuturecity.org or www.futurecity.org.

MATHCOUNTS PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Can you solve this MATHCOUNTS problem? The answer will appear in next week's edition of the Friday Update!

Black Friday/Cyber Monday

On Black Friday, Denise woke up at 3am to make sure she was able to get to the store for the “early bird” special – 60% off all clothing in the store! If Denise paid $50.64 for a dress after 5.5% sales tax, what was the original price of the dress?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sally has a coupon that she can use in addition to the sales at a particular store. Excited to stock up, she immediately finds two sweaters that are each 30% off and decides to use her “buy one get one half off” coupon to save even more. If the two sweaters were originally the same price, what single percent discount would have resulted in the same savings as Sally’s combined discount?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Cyber Monday, Bill is able to get 20% off of TVs at his favorite online store. If one TV was originally $699.99 and the other was 749.99, what is the positive difference between the two prices after the discount is applied?

Answer to the last MATHCOUNTS problem:

There are four color options for each of the five tail feathers. Thus, there are 4(4)(4)(4)(4) = 1024 ways to paint the tail feathers using solid colors for each feather.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since Marvin and Geoff need to sit next to each other, let’s consider them as one place for now. That means there are 8 places that need to be assigned. Since we are dealing with a round table we need to remember that we can shift everyone 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 seats without changing the order. Thus, there are 8!/8 = 7! = 5040 arrangements of 8 places. Now, recall that we considered Marvin and Geoff as one place but they can actually sit in 2 orders (Marvin, Geoff or Geoff, Marvin), thus there are actually 10,080 possible arrangements.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since we want to stick to the recipe we will use the following proportion:

7/(1/4) = 16/x

Solving for x we see that Lillian needs 7x = 16/4 —›x = 4/7 cups of parmesan cheese.
