ISPE SOUTHWEST CHAPTER HOLDS SUCCESSFUL MATHCOUNTS/FUTURE CITY FUNDRAISING GOLF TOURNAMENT!!

Thanks to the 10 teams and 10 hole sponsors that participated in the 2011 ISPE Southwest Chapter Golf Tournament on Friday September 16th.  Golfers enjoyed a great afternoon at Purple Sage while raising $2,660!!!   100% of the hole sponsorship money and $25.61 from each $65 golf entry fee will be placed in the ISPE Foundation for use by the Southwest Chapter of ISPE to fund the MATHCOUNTS and Future City programs.  All $2,660 raised is eligible for credit as a tax deductible donation and I will follow up this week with a thank you and total donation amount to each team, but please let me know if you have any questions regarding your contribution.

Final results (besides everyone finishing in the top 10) were:
1st Place - Team HDR (Mike Ebright, Kate Eldridge, Mike Johnson, Mike Slegers)

2nd Place - Team Hewlett Packard (Jim Reppell, Cory Robertson, Jeff Wallner and Mike Zortman)

Closest to the Pin Winners –  Bert Nowak (Team ISPLS) and Mike Slegers (Team HDR)
Longest Drive Winners – Will Glasgow (Team T-O Engineers) Mike Johnson (Team HDR)

A majority of the tournament profits come from the hole sponsorships.  Thanks to the following companies who sponsored a hole this year:
CH2M Hill, GeoTek, HDR, H.W. Lochner, J-U-B Engineers, MWH, Parametrix, Stapley Engineering, T-O Engineers, and URS. Special thanks to the Idaho Society of Professional Land Surveyors for their donation of a replica of the Idaho Initial Point Monument on which all Idaho surveys are based.

Again, on behalf of the Southwest Chapter of ISPE, thanks for your continued support of this tournament, ISPE and the MATHCOUNTS and Future City programs.

MATHCOUNTS PROBLEM OF THE WEEK

Can you solve this MATHCOUNTS problem?  The answer will appear in the next edition of the Friday Update!

Multimedia Math

Cheri has a new iPod® with enough storage capacity to hold up to 32G (which is 32 gigabytes) of her multimedia content. Cheri adds 10G of music and uses 1G of the space for some of her photos. What percent of the total storage capacity remains free for Cheri to add additional content? Express your answer as a decimal to the nearest tenth.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only additional content Cheri adds to her iPod are some videos. After adding her videos, the ratio of unused storage space to the space used for the videos is 1:2. How many gigabytes of video content did Cheri add to her iPod?

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cheri’s younger brother, Will, also has a new iPod. Will’s iPod will only accommodate 16G of his multimedia content. Will adds music to his iPod that uses the same fraction of space on his iPod as Cheri’s music used on her iPod. What is the total storage space on Will’s iPod that contains music, in gigabytes?
